250 Hryven – Ukraine

The central depiction of Kyiv's 11th-century St. Sophia Cathedral, a pearl of old Russian architecture, is framed with beads. Below are inscriptions for its foundation date (11th century), face value, and issue year. Above, around the circumference, is the inscription: УКРАЇНА (Ukraine).

At the center of a vegetal circle, the main mosaic depicts the Blessed Virgin Orante, her figure splitting the horizontal inscription "Orante." Above the ornament are inscriptions of the metal, its fineness, and the coin's fine weight.
