The central design features a fragment of the oblast flag, the 2017 issue year, the Sviatohirsk Cave Monastery, a spoil tip, a stone baba monument on the steppe, with sunflowers, mining lights, and a helmet below.

The Mertsalova palm in an oak wreath is the central element of the oblast coat of arms.
