The coin's obverse features the mythological symbols of the celestial constellations at its center, along with specifications of its metal, purity, and weight. A wide border encircles the perimeter, bearing the face value "500 ТЕҢГЕ", the inscriptions "ҚАЗАҚСТАН РЕСПУБЛИКАСЫ" and "REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN", and a stylized sun.

The coin's reverse features a central image of the dog, symbolizing the 2018 Eastern Calendar year, along with the National Bank of Kazakhstan's logo. A wide frosted edging encircles the perimeter, bearing the year "2018" and the phrase "ORIENTAL CALENDAR" in Kazakh, Russian, and English. The remaining eleven symbols of the Eastern Calendar are placed inside this border.
