500 Rupees (Buddhism in Sri Lanka) – Sri Lanka

Commemorating the 2300th anniversary of Buddhism's arrival in Sri Lanka via Arahat Mahinda (June 4, 1993). This unique coin uses the "Shri" spelling introduced by President Premadasa. It depicts the meeting of Mahinda and King Devanampivatissa at Mihintale, with the Dhamma Chakka symbolizing both. Inscriptions in Sinhala, Tamil, and English mark the anniversary.

A stylized Bodhi Tree, representing the site of Buddha's Enlightenment, within its ornamental railing. The year 1993 (Buddhist year 2537) appears beside it. "SHRI LANKA" is inscribed in Sinhala, Tamil, and English. The denomination "500" and "FIVE HUNDRED RUPEES" appear in the three languages along the periphery.
