Description: Ruins of the Basilica of Paysandú, Uruguay, 1865. Colonel Leandro Gómez led the city's nearly year-long defense before its fall on 2 January 1865. He was executed after capture and later promoted to General posthumously. An original mintage of 3,000 coins was stolen in transit; 6,000 were subsequently struck.
