2 Euro (Carolus V coins) – Belgium

The Golden Carolus Guilder is the most famous coin from Charles V, reflecting his push for uniformity. Nearly 500 years later, his portrait appears on this ECU coin, the euro's forerunner. The design includes the original guilder, the mintmarks of Utrecht and Herzele, the designer's initials "LL," the country code "BE," and the year 2021. The outer ring features the 12 stars of the European flag.

A Western Europe map spans the coin's right side, with "2 EURO" overlaid—the "2" in the Atlantic. Twelve stars flank the map, six above and six below, connected by six vertical stripes across the inner core.
